Don’t Struggle to Build a List for Someone Else

Build a List of Your Own

If you are advertising splash pages in traffic exchanges and safelists that do not have Your Own opt-in forms on them……Get Rid of them! The only programs you should promote are the ones You Own!

First, the number one thing that anyone in internet marketing will tell you is to build a list. YOUR LIST.  The internet is about communication and social marketing it is best done with your own list. To do social marketing you need to build a list, this is how you can communicate with people, get to know them and build trust.

List building is also total branding, how you communicate with your prospects portrays who you are and what you represent, send them crap and they will think you are crap, send them things that help them solve problems and get closer to their goals, and they will get to know you and trust you.  Social marketing and Branding is not just putting your name and picture on a page and telling people to join your program.  Social marketing and branding are continuing communication, that is how you build long term relationships and trust.

My husband and I owned a general insurance business and let me tell you our relationships with our clients were all about communication. You need to sit down and talk to your clients and find out how you can help them. You need to be a problem solver not a problem maker. On the internet we can sit aross a table so to speak. We have SKYPE, webcams, videos, conference rooms and the written word.

Build a List to Promote Affiliate Programs

Second, when you advertise affiliate programs directly you are not building your business, affiliate programs come and go like the wind, and you have no way of continuing communication with your new referrals because they are on someone else list, AND YOU DID THE WORK TO PUT THEM THERE! Its just not smart marketing, build a list first and then refer them to your favorite affiliate programs, this way you are always building your list, and your business first. That way when the affiliate program you joined no longer exist, your business still does!

Third, if you build a list you will be able to continually communicate with your prospects, so why would you want to waste your traffic credits advertising a single program, that is a pure waste of your time and effort. I would rather put one person on my list a day, then put five people into a single program a day. Because when I build a list first and build a relationship with that person, they will follow me into 50 programs, not just one.

Also, I continually see the same tired affiliate splash pages over and over. Most of the popular affiliate programs provide their members with splash pages and the members must think they should use them because traffic exchanges are loaded wth them. If you must promote someone else’s business, at least do it with your own splash page. Build your own splash page from the elements provided by the affiliate program and include an opt-in form to build a list.

Build a List, but Don’t Abuse your Subscribers

What you advertise and how you advertise is extremely important. You cannot abuse the people on your list by flogging the lastest WSO. clickbank software or ebooks. You should only promote businesses or tools that you use and genuinely believe will be beneficial. If don’t do that people will tune you out in a hurry.

You need to be smart in your marketing, you need to realize affiliate programs exist so they can get others to build a list that they will own. Now that doesn’t mean do not join affiliate programs, it just means be smart and build a list that you own.
